(Thrilling post title, right? Couldn't think of anything better! My brain has a freeze.)
So. Monday again. But I'm not too put off because, even though they're saying the real feel is 1C and we have some stormy weather ahead this week, the days are getting longer. And just in time: my patio umbrella arrivedfrom Pottery Barn. The thing's a monster! I knew when the DHL guy was whining through the work intercom that there could be trouble, so a quick-thinking colleague sent some boys down, telling them new servers had arrived. Upon seeing the box was taller than me, I got another colleague to help me oh, okay, carry it back downstairs at the end of the day, then another colleague gave me a ride home. What's that you say? Yes, indeed, I do work with awesome people!
Now all I have to do is buy a stand and set that bitch up. And then she and I are going to become the best of friends, because I intend to spend a lot of time beneath her this year. I'm even thinking of getting some lights like these:
Back to the weekend. On Saturday, my cousin spirited me waaaaaaay out in the suburbs, where I spent the day laughing with a bunch of crazy women and making shit. First, I made Christmas cards, because I love sending handmade cards but I'm woeful when it comes to end-of-the-year deadlines--last year I didn't send any cards, handmade or otherwise--so I figured I should get a head start. These were made from Cosmo Cricket's Jolly by Golly and Mittens Weather lines, as well as some gift tags:
We're reconvening in a month, so I'm going to make layouts for Khan and Kody as well. Khan, I'm not sure yet what I'll use, but Kody rocked a star-spangled collar some years back, with the red, white and blue popped against his white coat, so that sent me on a hunt for the right paper. I Had whittled down my supplies to one plastic shoe box and one paper portfolio (oh, all right--and a basket of ribbons, but no one needs to know about that, do they?) but then I found this:
::shakesfist:: Damn you, American Crafts!
On the writing front--progress is slow but progressing. I'm meeting my 4am wake-up call 4 times out of 5. I need to add up my wordcount and install a counter, just to keep myself honest. I was a little disconcerted (BTW, is concerted a word, in the non-"concerted effort" way? Can you be "concerted to learn" something? How about combobulated?) when I tuned in to Rockwiz the other night, just in time for a segment about something called Yacht Rock. I've got my MIP playlist all loaded up on the Mac/iPhone, and they were taking the piss out of half of it: Doobie Brothers, Christopher Cross, Hall & Oates--though, in my defense, I'm using Rumer's version of "Sara Smile." Not sure if that makes me any less uncool or not, but I figure I'm riding a retro wave. Yeah, that's it! Anyways, I found out what Yacht Rock is and it's funny stuff:
