There are probably...hmm...3 authors whose work I snatch up in whatever format I can get it, whatever the price, and Caleb Carr is top of that list. That started back in '95 when, on vacation in Chicago, my B&B hostess gave me a copy of The Alienist and said, "You must read this." I read the back copy and can't say I was overwhelmed. But I thought I'd give it a shot and hours later I was still stuck in 1890s New York. The next day, I left my traveling companion to her own devices while I holed up with the book then, when I was done, ran downstairs for a long, animated conversation with the hostess.
Both The Alienist and The Angel of Darkness are books that I pick up every now and then to flip through and read passages from, both for the prose and the ideas. I was in the mood to do that today, except my copies are still stashed away in my mother's garage.
So I went looking to see if I could find a release date for the next Laszlo Kreizler installment. No luck (which prompts me to ask: Dear Caleb--really?) but I did find this video from the Charlie Rose show, back in '97. (Again: Dear Caleb--really?) Smart, smart guy. Who needs to get that next Laszlo Kreizler out there ASAP. (Dear Caleb--please?)
This was the blog of an Eloise wannabe and her 2 roustabout kitties as they work on a book deal in the City of Lights, giggling all the way. Now it's the blog of an Eloise wannabe planning her next escape (California, Canadia?) with 2 other kitties--still working, still giggling.
